Home is the heart of the community

In recent years, awareness and funding for mental health has grown, with conditions like anxiety and depression receiving much-needed attention. This progress is encouraging, but it is only part of the picture. The most complex and severe mental health conditions - such as schizophrenia, bipolar and personality disorder - remain in the shadows, often misunderstood and critically underfunded.

While millions rally to support mental wellbeing, those facing more severe and persistent conditions continue to experience stigma, isolation, and a lack of resources. Hope in Every Life aims to change this.

For many people with severe mental illness, life can mean living in unsafe housing, struggling to find nutritious food and being cut off from activities that help them stay healthy and connected. All things many of us take for granted.

These struggles don’t exist in isolation. They happen close to home and that’s where change begins.

When neighbours come together, we create places that are safer and full of opportunity.

Whether it’s a church group, a rotary club, a sports team or a group of friends—community action makes a difference. By raising awareness and fundraising together, we build connection, challenge stigma and show that no one has to face mental illness alone.

Some ideas to bring your community together include, themed fairs or family fun days, awareness events that open up conversations or classic fundraisers with a local twist.

These are moments to raise money, but they also strengthen bonds, create pride and put compassion at the heart of our shared spaces.

Together, we can turn community spirit into hope.
